A paranormal historian who appeared on a TV show about ghosts is heading to a beauty spot near Burton to share his stories in time for Halloween. Richard Felix, who was an expert on the show Most Haunted, is hosting a Dining with the Dead evening at Barton Marina.

The event, which will take place at The Crow’s Nest at The Waterfront, will be held on Friday, October 28, from 7.30pm and includes a two-course meal with spooky entertainment and stories. It will start with a ghost story followed by other tales between each course.

At the end Mr Felix will give a talk on ‘what is a ghost’ where he explains the reality – which could come as a shock to many without giving too much away, a spokesperson said. There may even be a paranormal investigation at The Waterfront, they added.

With the event at Barton being on Halloween, he will also explain how Halloween started as a pagan ceremony. He will also answer questions like why do ghosts wear clothes?

Mr Felix said: “Years ago I was with a group of gentlemen at a dinner and when they had finished the dinner and the port, brandy and cigars had gone round, they were all getting bored and then one suddenly said has anyone ever seen a ghost.

“There was a lot of not really and then someone started with a ghost story and the port and brandy came back out and at 2am they were still listening to each other’s ghost stories. That is when I came up with the idea of ‘dining with the dead’.

“It’s something different and is right around Halloween. People are fascinated by it and it really is more fascinating that ghost stories in the Scooby Doo side of it.

“I would encourage people to come along as they will have an entertaining evening and learn an awful lot about what ghosts really are. They will find it more fascinating than the scary stories side of it.

“Ghosts are not there to scare you. They will have a ghost night.”

Mr Felix will also be signing copies of his book What is a Ghost? Tickets for Dining with the Dead cost £25 per person and are available at https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/dining-with-the-dead-tickets-333562052077.
