The Princeton Public Library has recently received new Playaways in our youth room. A Playaway is the simplest way to listen to audiobooks on the go. Each of our Playaways comes with the digital content already pre-loaded on it. Simply add batteries, plug in your earphones and enjoy.
The youth department also has Wonderbooks. A Wonderbook is audio and print bound together for literacy and fun. A recorded version of the story follows the print where kids can read along. After the story, they can switch the Wonderbook into Learning Mode to engage the child in conversation about the book. It allows parents to talk to their children about books.
Fall programming has begun at the library. Find information about programs on our Facebook page at facebook.com/PrincetonPublicLibrary or call the library at 812-385-4464. Activities include Family Storytime, Arty Party, Creative Crafters, Chats with Charlie, Knitting Club, and The Mighty Pen.
The library is requesting that the public wear a mask in order to keep the library open during this time of high Covid-19 rates in Gibson County.
New Books and DVDsFiction: Dangerous Ground by Rachel Grant. Archaeologist Fiona Carver is on dangerous venture when she must track down a missing volcanologist off her team. The team was evacuating a prehistoric village in the Aleutian Islands. Missing member, Dean Slater, faked his way onto the team in order to find his missing brother even if it means federal prison. He needs Fiona’s help who knows the terrain more than anyone. They find they aren’t the only ones on this dangerous search because others are on the hunt for them.
Fiction: Tin Camp Road by Ellen Airgood. Single mom, Laura Hill, loves her corner of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, the place where she grew up and now lives with her daughter, Skye. She is on the verge of losing land and home that defines her. Laura finds her way to a brighter future when she learns the power of giving and accepting help from the community around her.
Mystery: False Witness by Karin Slaughter. Leigh Collier has worked hard to build a normal life. Her ordinary life masks a childhood that is tarnished by secrets and a devastating act of violence. Mystery: The Madness of Crowds by Louise Penny. Armand Gamache is the Chief Inspector of the Quebec village of Three Pines. Every year his holiday with his family is interrupted by a request to provide security for a visiting Professor of Statistics who lectures at a nearby university. Armand is perplexed why the head of homicide is assigned this task. He starts looking into Professor Abigail Robinson and finds an agenda so repulsive he begs the university to cancel the event. Before long, her controversial views begin discussions, then debates, then arguments, then fights. When a murder is committed, Armand and his team investigate the crime and this extraordinary popular delusion of the madness of crowds.
Science Fiction: The Ninth Metal by Benjamin Percy. A story of a modern-day gold rush caused by a meteor shower in the Midwest. Youth: Scritch Scratch by Lindsay Currie. Based on a true ghost story of Chicago’s history that includes a malevolent spirit, an unlucky girl, and a haunting mystery that will tie the two together. Claire had no interest in the paranormal. She’s a scientist at heart. She can’t think of anything worse than to help her dad on one of his ghost-themed Chicago bus tours. Just as she thinks she is in the clear with the tour, Claire sees a boy in the back of the bus with a sad face and dark eyes. Something was off about his appearance. Then he was gone. Claire starts hearing scratching noises, voices whisper to her, the number 396 appears everywhere, and the dark eyed boy follows her. Claire is being haunted. The boy wants something. Claire needs to find what it is before it’s too late.
Mature Youth: Forget This Ever Happened by Cassandra Rose Clarke. In June of 1993, teen Claire is dumped in Indianola, Texas to spend her whole vacation taking care of her mean, sickly, Grammy. Indianola is a shabby run-down pin dot town on the Gulf Coast. If you ever leave Indianola, you forget about it and if you stay, you have to live with it every day. Movie: I See You. Starring Helen Hunt, Jon Tenney, Judah Lewis, and Owen Teague. When a twelve-year-old goes missing, lead investigator Greg Harper struggles with work and problems at home. His wife, Jackie, loses grip on reality as she faces a recent affair that has put a strain on the family. Their son, Connor, is put in mortal danger when a malicious presence manifests itself in their home. The cold hard truth about evil in the household is finally uncovered. Rated R for violence and language.
Movie: Our Friend. Starring Jason Segal, Dakota Johnson, Casey Affleck, Cherry Jones and Jake Owens. Movie is based on a true story. Journalist Matt and his children get devastating news when their wife and mom, Nicole, is diagnosed with terminal cancer. As Matt’s responsibilities become increasingly overwhelming, their best friend, Dane, offers to come and help out. His decision to do this puts his own life on hold in order to stay with his friends. The impact of this decision proves greater and more profound than anyone could have imagined. Rate R for language.
Movie: The High Note. Starring Dakota Johnson, Tracee Ellis Ross, Kelvin Harrison, Jr and Bill Pullman. A superstar singer and her overworked personal assistant are presented with a choice that could alter the course of their respective careers. Rated PG-13 for some strong language and suggestive reference.
